The bacteria that the fleas get is calledYersinia pestis is usaully trasmitted from rodent to flea to rodent. Humans are normally only targeted by the flea if the flea has no more rodents to feed on. When a flea bites a healthy rodent the blood goes directly to the flea's stomach, easing its hunger. But when a flea bites a rodent infected withYersinia pestis the bacterium-riddled blood gets stuck in the flea's foregut. The bacteria then grows engorging the flea. The flea is then hungry non stop because nothing is getting to its stomach, so then the flea will procede to feed on more and more rodents. It spreads the disease by regurgitating the infected blood into healthy rodents. When the rodents start to die off the fleas swarm and kill the remaining rodents. Once all the rodents are dead the fleas then turn to people.
