The doctors during the plague wore large leather outfits with a bird like mask. The reason for the beak of the mask was so they could put spices and other scented things in it, because they thought if they couldn't smell the plague it wouldn't hurt them. They often had bright gems where the eye holes were. Although they didn't have any remedies that worked they still had something. The idea of the doctors dressing they way they did originated in 1619 the inventor or creator was Charles D L'Orme, and were first used in Paris.
